The Audiologist will take a thorough case history. This provides information about the hearing loss, probable cause, duration and the presence of any medical condition that would suggest a medical referral.
The hearing test is conducted to provide information about the degree and nature of the hearing loss as well as the ability to process and understand speech sounds. This evaluation is done in a sound-proof booth while wearing earphones. Each ear is tested separately.
Another test, called tympanometry, may be conducted to assess middle ear function. This helps determine your candidacy for a hearing aid vs. a medical referral.
